Brian Bishop founded New Panel Homes in Englewood, Fla., in 1998. The company manufactures strong, energy-efficient insulated panel kits for residential homes and commercial buildings. The kit consists of walls, roof and floor, and most owners and builders can build their home in a week, achieving a dried-in shell ready for interior finishing.
New Panel Homes designed several small building kits specifically for emergency relief, providing an alternative to FEMA shelters. These range from a 64-square foot green-certified “casita” for a homeless shelter in Florida to a 96-square-foot cabin for Haitian relief, and the popular 600-square-foot “Katrina cottages,” designed as renewal housing after Hurricane Katrina.
